In honor of Autism Awareness Month, 29 Acres shines the light on LANDON!

April is Autism Awareness Month

Thanks to Autism Speaks, thousands of landmarks (including the White House),  businesses, houses of worship and communities in over 150 countries will  Light It Up Blue in April to raise global awareness of Autism spectrum disorder.

29 Acres will proudly shine the light on individuals with autism  every day for the month of April. We want to raise awareness of autism spectrum disorder in our own community and we hope we do that by sharing their stories.

MEET LANDON

Landon is the son of Julie and Scott Miller, and the brother of Madelyn, 15 and Jillian, 11.

Landon's innocence shields him from the realities of autism.  He doesn't see himself as different than others, and therefore doesn't seem to know that he approaches the world differently than others. For now, this seems like a good thing.  Landon is a happy and affectionate young man, and tries his best at everything he does.  With modifications to the way he learns, Landon has successfully accomplished learning to do things like ski and long distance cycling, and made his family extremely proud this past year in achieving becoming a Bar Mitzvah.  He brings ultimate joy to our family!

Landon enjoys bicycle riding, swimming, basketball, and video games.  He is one of the friendliest faces
in the neighborhood, and enjoys coordinating "doggie play dates" with many of the dogs who live on our
block!  He has a special interest in trains, especially local rails like DART in Dallas, the T in Boston, and the
subway in New York City.  He knows all the stops and routes and loves to talk with people about directions to get between destinations.  He also has a unique interest in elevators and enjoys watching elevators from different buildings around the world on his computer.
We are hopeful that the 29 Acres Transition Academy can be an appropriate and meaningful experience for
Landon to continue to learn, and truly transition into the workforce.  We are also excited for the
potential opportunity for him to live independently with minimal supports on a campus that includes not only his home, but resources for recreation, socializing, and continued learning.

In honor of the thousands of individuals living with autism in our Texas communities who are in need of quality housing and ongoing support, please consider supporting this project. 29 Acres is a registered 501C3 and all donations are tax deductible.
